A Chronological History of New England

In 1728, Thomas Prince was discouraged by the lack of history available to the public regarding New England´s beginnings. In England, he found little more. So, he decided to do something about it and gathered up the accounts from the early settlers, organizing the facts in the order that they occurred.

Along with the written accounts, Prince also had access to the second generation of people in Plymouth, whose parents lived all of that history.

At the time he published the first installment, there was not as much interest as he had hoped for. Sales were slow. He did persevere, however, and went on to write a second volume which was dedicated to the early history of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Some of the early materials here will seem familiar to readers of Winthrop, Bradford and ´Mourt´, but there is quite a bit of information here not found in those earlier sources.

Become absorbed in the reality tale of this hard working, resolute band of settlers. They survived famine and exposure and forged a peace with the Indians that lasted for over 40 years, and established the first permanent settlement in New England, while others failed.
